About the book:

Having missed out on the “drop-dead-gorgeous” gene in her family, Ann Snyder decides to kick a little butt in the business world instead. That is, until her skeezy manager’s “side business” has the FDA raiding her chocolate shop. Now Ann’s in huge trouble…and the only person who can help her is the adorkable guy who completely humiliated her in high school.

Lawyer Eric Maxwell has been in love with Ann as long as he can remember. He figured he never stood a chance—don’t the beautiful girls always prefer the bad boys to the nerds? So he makes Ann a deal. He’ll provide her with free legal services…if she’ll move in and help him transform him from nerd-without-a-clue to bona fide bad boy.

And once the transition is complete, all he has to do is prove that he’s the only bachelor for her…

Guest Post:

Why I Do It

I was asked why I’m a writer. I’ve been a writer since I was a little girl. Before I knew anything at all about the mechanics of writing, I just wanted to tell stories. I think the storytelling was triggered because I was an early reader.

I’ve always loved books and I try to read every day, even if it’s only a few pages. I’m always adding to my too-be-read pile and to my keeper shelf.

I just finished reading I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga because someone suggested it to me. Amazing, jump-off-the-page, with a likeable but beautifully flawed cast of characters. Well, except for the dad. Nothing likeable about him.

I finished the book and picked up the second in the series titled Game. A friend also just gifted me a copy of All We Left Behind by Ingrid Sundberg and that looks like it’ll be a great read.

I love reading because I get drawn into worlds that are so varied. I don’t like books that are same-old, same-old. You know the ones where you read the book and it sounds like the same plot but with different faces.

I like to be stunned by the ending, to not be able to figure out what’s going to happen in the end by the middle of the book. I love books that have such vivid storytelling and characters that the story never leaves you. If You Could See Me Now by Cecelia Ahern is that kind of book. So is The Hunt Club by Bret Lott and Wives of the Fishermen by Angela Huth.

I read in a variety of genres but my favorite will always be romance. I love the sweet ones like With Me Tomorrow by Karen Rock or the sexier ones like Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley.

I love words. Love reading them, love writing them.

When I read, I get lost in the story and that’s the same thing that happens when I write. I get lost in the story and in the characters. Because the story unfolds for me as I write, it’s like I’m reading it.

My latest release is Stealing the Bachelor. The book is the last one in the Stealing the Heart series and so even though there’s excitement with every release, this one is bittersweet. I have to say goodbye to the Snyder sisters, to characters I have loved and rooted for. I hope that if you get a chance to read this series that you’ll enjoy reading about the family as much as I enjoyed writing them.

Crashed Out by Tessa Bailey

Jasmine
Taveras is the reason Sarge Purcell grabbed his six-string and bailed the hell
out of New Jersey four years ago. She’s the fuel for every song he’s ever
written—each one laced with bitter, hard-edged, hungry lust. Now, with
his hugely successful band on temporary hiatus, Sarge is determined to prove to
Jasmine that this “kid” turned into every inch the man she’s always needed…

Men
are slim pickings for a single factory girl in Hook, New Jersey…until tall,
broad-shouldered hotness walks—or rather storms—into Jasmine’s life.
Sarge’s return shouldn’t affect her this way. He’s her best friend’s much
younger kid brother, and the kind of rough, gritty, sexiness Jasmine has no
right to taste for herself. Even if he lets her.

But lust is a blinding,
insatiable force. And when it crashes, it will take both Sarge and Jasmine down
with it…

When the knife and her hands were spotless, she slipped the blade in a sheath on her belt, took a deep breath, then stepped around the body and walked out of the room. Tannin paused to shake his head before following after her.

Out in the corridor, she waited for him while he swung the door closed. He used the same program that unlocked the doors to totally screw the security protocol, so that if someone tried to get in, it should delay them for a decent amount of time.

“You’re an inmate.” The words somehow manage to hold equal amounts of surprise and suspicion.

He nodded. “Twelve years now.”

“How did you get into this building?” They started making their way back along the corridor, and he tried not to take it personally that she kept an obvious few feet between them.

When they reached the outer door, he held up his commpad to get them through.

“I hacked my way through the security system.”

“And you can do that without setting off any kind of alarm?” she asked as the door clicked open.

“Most people couldn’t. I can.” He motioned for her to wait and ducked out to make sure the coast was clear. He stepped out and held the door for her.

“So you’re some kind of hacking genius. Is that how you ended up on Erebus?”

He shook his head, though it would have been easier to claim a more minor, less brutal crime. “No, I learned all of my hacking skills after I got here.” He pointed. “The marketplace is that way. You’ll find signs to guide you back to the docking bays from there.”

For a long moment she stared at him, something going on behind those dark blue eyes. But then she simply nodded and turned away, hurrying along the building before disappearing around the far corner.

Tannin shoved a hand through his hair, took a deep breath, then walked off in the opposite direction. As if he needed any more excitement before he set out on what probably amounted to a suicide mission. About the best thing he could do now was bunk down in his apartment for a few hours until the time came and hope no one found the body he’d just helped to hide.

“Vivian has me on the day shift for the duration of our time together, so my evenings will be free.”

“For whatever I need?” His voice was pitched lower, the sound almost a physical caress along her skin.

She leveled her best disapproving look at Kieran and crossed her arms. “So, is this what normally works for you? A dash of charm and all the women trip over themselves to get to you?”

Instead of withering under her stare, Kieran merely curled his lips into an amused smile. “Usually.”

“Well, it won’t work on me.” Kieran leaned closer, crowding into her space. “It has to, my witch. When my pack is watching, you need to look at me like I’m the only one in the world for you.”

“I can be a fine actress, thank you very much. I won’t give us away.”

He snorted. “I haven’t known you long, but even I know you can’t lie to save your life.”

She blinked at the words. It was true she’d never been very gifted at deception, but that wasn’t an insight she’d expected him to have—not based on their limited relationship. Unease tugged at her as she realized Kieran saw more than she intended him to. It was so easy to write him off as a spoiled playboy, she tended to forget he was much more than that.

The man before her ran a powerful, dangerous pack with an iron fist. He’d weathered challenges to his leadership and threats from intruders. If she ripped open his shirt she had no doubt she’d see scars from his many battles marring his golden skin. She needed to remember Kieran wasn’t a man to be trifled with.

He was a predator, and she very much wanted to avoid being prey.

“I wouldn’t have agreed to this charade if I wasn’t confident I could do it,” she said, swallowing hard.

Kieran moved, trapping her between his arms as he gripped the railing on either side of her body.

“You can’t jump when I touch you,” he breathed against her ear. “You can’t look at me like a wayward schoolboy in need of a reprimand.” He drew back enough to meet her gaze. “We’re supposed to be lovers. There wouldn’t be a single inch of your skin I wouldn’t have run my lips over.”

Heat suffused her face.

“There, you see? You blush when I’m close.”

“I don’t,” she denied, lifting her chin.

Kieran snorted. “People will take one look at us and know we’re pretending. If we’d really been lovers for months, there’s no way you’d still look so goddamn innocent.”

“Maybe I’d teach you a thing or two instead. Ever think of that, wolf boy?”

A chuckle rumbled from his wide chest. “Witchling, if you ever want to try and teach me something new in the bedroom, I promise I’ll be a most diligent student.”

Her cheeks were on fire despite her desire to remain unaffected by Kieran. He was right, damn him, she needed to stop acting like a giddy teen when he touched her.

“I’ll work on it,” she growled, pushing at him to force him back. “By tomorrow I’ll be ready.”

She smiled, a bashful, real, breathtaking smile that warmed my entire body. I gripped the door tighter to keep from touching her and breaking the spell.

“Before you go…I need to ask. This is really awkward, and I’ll pay you for your time.” She cleared her throat. “It’s just for show, for my company.”

I raised a brow. “Sounds great so far.”

She rolled her eyes. “My firm sponsors the annual Masquerade Ball here in Tahoe every year, and this time I promised my new community relations manager I would go.”

She stared up at me like she expected me to say something. Problem was, I had no clue what she was talking about.

“And you need me to…build a stage or…?”

Color flushed her chest. I could almost feel the heat on my skin.

“No, I need you to be my date.” I struggled to keep my jaw off the floor while she backpedaled.

“Not like a real date. It’s just that tickets are sold per couple, so I can’t go alone, and I don’t want to involve Charlie. I wouldn’t ask, but you probably guessed I don’t really hang out with people. There’s no one else for me to ask. We wouldn’t have to stay long and you’ll be paid for the time…”

“Yes.” Without thinking, I placed my finger over her lips to quiet her and be sure she heard me. My heart stuttered the instant I touched her skin, and deep inside of me, my wolf howled. The lights brightened as my pupils dilated and contracted. I blinked hard and shook my head. What the hell… “Don’t pay me. I’ll go because I want to, not because it’ll help your business.”

I dropped my hand, half expecting her to slap me, but she didn’t move away. A fine line creased between her eyebrows. “Are you all right?”

That definitely depended on her definition.

From the depths of my soul, my wolf recognized her. Taryn was my mate. Mine. This cool, distant woman, with another wolf’s child. And yet, maybe I’d sensed it before. Maybe that was why I took this job up the goddamn Mt. Rose highway just as winter was coming in. Had I been drawn to her and her little boy?

I stared down into her eyes, my voice barely a whisper. “If I stay here any longer, I’m not going to be able to stop myself from kissing you.”

Her throat bobbed as she swallowed, but she didn’t back away. Her blue eyes searched mine. “I don’t want to hurt you.”

“You won’t.” I closed the distance between us, my lips claiming hers. Light burst behind my eyelids as I carefully slid my arms around her. Her body was warm right through my clothes, and while her kiss started out tentative, gradually she returned my caresses and her hands glided up over my chest, until I smoldered to have her even closer.

Suddenly, she pushed me away. I let her go, struggling to catch my breath. Her eyes welled with tears. Shit. Had I scared her somehow?

She shook her head. “This was a bad idea.”

“Nothing about that was bad.”

Her fingers trembled at her sides. Without my heightened sense of hearing, I never would have been able to make out her words. “Look at your shirt.”

I tipped my head down and frowned. There were two brown streaks on the front of my shirt, like I’d left an iron on it too long. The heat I’d imagined from her touch hadn’t been in my imagination.

“This is why you don’t like to be touched.”

She didn’t acknowledge me, just took another step away. “I’m sorry, Jared. I can’t explain, just…just go.”

I glanced down the hall. “That’s why you keep your distance with Charlie.”

“Walk away, Jared.”

I shook my head. “I’m not afraid.”

Her eyes narrowed. “You should be.”

About Angela Claire

Angela Claire, like most writers, grew up loving to read, which led to a degree in English literature, which in turn led to unemployment. Not having been born to wealth, Angela developed a more practical plan for eating and paying her rent—hence the dreaded and expected descent into law school and inevitable career as a lawyer. Once she paid off her pesky yet massive student loans, Angela saved for an escape from the law profession one day. Now a multi-published author, she does what she loves, but with a little less leeway on the eating and paying rent thing. She is represented by Kerry D’Agostino at Curtis Brown, LTD.
